Title
Two questions about universals and naturalness
Abstract
This talk is focused on how we should answer the following two related questions about natural properties and universals:
Q1) If there are universals, how abundant/sparse are they? Are there universals corresponding to more than perfectly natural properties, or only for them?
Q2) What is a perfectly natural property?
After considering different ways of answering Q1, I conclude that a realist about universals should postulate only those universals that correspond to perfectly natural properties, but only if she answers Q2 by taking perfect naturalness as a primitive that is partially characterized by its theoretical role.
